The Goddess of Kannon (仙台大観音) is a spectacularly huge statue of Kannon, the Deity of Mercy, near Sendai in Tohoku. It is over 100 meters tall and visitors are able to enter and walk up for views over the city and pacific ocean. It is the sixth tallest statue in the world!

Budget travel tips

  • There is a MOS Burger restaurant and 7-11 outside if you need to eat something cheap.
  • Best as a day trip from Sendai.

How to get there

From Sendai station, take a bus from bus stop No. 14 in the direction of Seiwa College. Get off at Sendai Dai Kannon-mae (仙台大観音前)(about 40 minutes).
