The best cherry blossom spots in Tokyo

Here are some of the best places for Sakura in Tokyo:

Ueno Park

A huge park with seemingly hundreds of cherry blossom trees.  Very, very busy, but great atmosphere.

Shinjuku Gyoen Garden

A very easy to access park.  Much quieter than the other main parks.

Inokashira Park (Kichijoji)

A wonderfully large park not far from central Tokyo.  Makes for a great day trip.

Meguro River

A long river lined with perfect cherry blossoms, cheap stalls selling food and a great, casual atmosphere.

Access:  From Shibuya station, take the Tokyu Toyoko line (private line) to Nakameguro station. The river is just north of the station.

Yoyogi Park

Doesn’t have the best cherry blossoms trees, but there is plenty of space to sit town and have a picnic/beer.

Asukayama Park

A large, free park with a lively, festival feel during the cherry blossom season.  Free performances of Japanese dance and other arts.

Access: From Ueno station, take the Keihin Tohoku line (JR line) to Oji station.  It’s just south of the station.

Sumida Park

Near Asakusa, this park has a nice selection of cherry blossoms going along the river.

Near the British Embassy

The park along the river surrounding the Imperial Palace is an excellent place for cherry blossom viewing.

Access: From Shibuya station, take the Hanzomon line (Metro line) to Hanzomon station.  Follow signs to the embassy.
