Nagano Snow Resort Pass

Matthew Baxter

The Nagano Snow Resort Pass allows holders unlimited use of trains and buses in the Nagano snow area, in the Japanese Alps. This includes access to places such as NaganoHakuba and Yudanaka, where tourists can enjoy snowboarding, skiiing and some amazing hot springs.

What does it cost?

2 Day Pass: Adults 5000 yen (about $40/€36), Children 2500 yen (about $20/€18).

When can I use it?

December 20th to March 31st.

Is it worth it?

Traveling up in the Japanese Alps can be expensive. If you plan to visit 2 different places over 2 days, then this pass starts to make sense. For example, if you did a day skiing in Hakuba, then relaxed in the hot springs of Yudanaka, this pass is good value. If you plan to stay for more time in one area, it’s cheaper to just get individual tickets.

What are the rules?

  • To be used over 2 consecutive days.
  • For foreign tourist only.
  • Not usable on JR trains.

Where can I buy it?

You can buy at Tourist Information centers, such as in Nagano or Hakuba.

How do I use it?

On buses, take a ticket as per normal, then show your pass when you get off and put your ticket in the machine.

For trains, just show station staff as you enter and exit trains or larger stations.
