SUNQ Pass

The SUNQ Pass is the cheapest way to travel all over Kyushu. It gives unlimited use of a huge bus network, including almost all highway and local buses in the prefecture. It also allows holders to use highway buses within Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi Prefecture and the surrounding area.
What does it cost?
3 days (northern area only): 8000 yen (around $65)
3 days: 10000 yen (around $80)
4 days: 14000 yen (around $115)
When can I use it?
Anytime.
Is it worth it?
The SUNQ pass can be much cheaper than the JR Kyushu Rail Pass, plus the bus network is more extensive than the train network, so you can access more locations on the bus. It makes sense if you are traveling long distances, but not so if you are only traveling a bit every day.
If traveling just in northern Kyushu, the northern train pass is about the same price, so check where you want to go before buying one.
Holder also receive discounts at some hotels, restaurants and shops on the routes.
What are the rules?
- Can only be used on buses on the network (about 99% in the prefecture).
- Cannot be used on any trains or trams.
- Valid for 3 or 4 consecutive days.
- Valid for any type of visa or nationality.
Where can I buy it?
The SUNQ Pass can be purchased online or at various bus sales counters in Kyushu and Honshu.
How do I use it?
You should reserve your seats beforehand at ticket counters in major bus terminals, such as Fukuoka or Kumamoto, but you could risk doing it on the day. Once you have your reservation, you can collect your tickets at these counters. Show your ticket to the driver with your pass.
Some local routes don’t require a reservation.
