Nyuto Onsen

Nyuto Onsen (乳頭温泉) is one of the most famous hot spring towns in Japan, with it’s silky white water and traditionally styled hot spring buildings. It’s a great place to spend some time relaxing or hiking in Tohoku.
Budget travel tips
- Most hot springs only open from 10AM to 2/3PM for non-staying guests.
- Bring a towel, as some hot springs charge a lot or don’t rent them out.
Things to do
Tsuru-No-Yu Hot Spring (鶴の湯温泉)
An iconic hot spring with almost milky water that will definitely make you feel relaxed after a bit of travelling around. Take the bus to Alpa Komakusa, then take the free shuttle bus.

Price: Adults 500 yen, Children 300 yen
Tae No Yu Hot Spring (乳頭温泉郷 妙乃湯)
Another amazing hot spring up in the mountains. Located alongside a mountain stream, this hot spring has great views as well as making you feel super relaxed. Take the bus to Nyuto Onsen.
Open: 10AM – 2PM
Price: 1000 yen
Walking route
This walking route starts near the bottom of the mountain and leads all the way up the Nyuto Onsen, passing the hot springs listed above and going through some interesting woods. Ask at the tourist information center in Lake Tazawa station for a map.
How to get there
First, go to Lake Tazawa. From here, take the bus to Nyuto Onsen (bus stop is just outside the station and has English). Depending on the hot spring, you will need to get off at different stops.
Make sure you get a map from the tourist information center in the station.
